Lake Stamford is Google's latest target with its $40 billion server farm plan for Texas.

Two Google data centers are currently under construction in Haskell County, forming part of a $40 billion investment in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure across Texas. As development progresses, the project is beginning to register as a meaningful economic force within West Texas. Stamford, located on the border of Jones and Haskell counties, is now assessing the long-term pressures this growth could place on water resources and infrastructure.

Those who support the project argue for the economic benefits it will bring, but there are many others who have doubts and concerns.

"My fear is that the mayor sees this as a godsend and an answer to all their problems, but I’m afraid what we’re doing is trading one group of problems for an entirely different set that are going to be a lot more prominent long-term for our children and our grandchildren."

SaveLakeStamford.com is here to take the fight to Google and Community Leaders to preserve our precious natural resources and do away with this threat to our neighboring farm and ranches and protect our livelihoods and the futures of our children and grandchildren!

What Google Wants

Google isn't really asking for much as long as you don't look too closely.

Google is planning to construct at least 248 data centers in Texas. In Haskell County alone, Google is planning for two separate campuses to build data centers sizing in at 280,000 and 350,000 square feet and plans are in the works for another facility as yet undisclosed.

Haskell South / Thelma Project

Thelma Campus plans call for construction of 5 buildings, two of which have a total footprint of 630K square feet and a total combined power requirement of 440 megawatts. Three more facilities will add to those numbers.

When completed, the facilities on the Journey and Thelma data center campuses will have a total projected power capacity combined of 880 megawatts.

500 Acres and Growing

The Haskell North project is sited on 300 acres of land on Red Creek Road. The consolidated acreage for the South Haskell county project has not been made public. Meanwhile Google has filed and received a tax abatement through 2039 for a THIRD Haskell County Data Center to be built in 6 phases on "designated certain property."

Data Center Locations

Google is not bringing a data center to Haskell County. They're bringing at least three.

Tax abatement agreements executed between Haskell County and Google-affiliated LLCs that are available for public viewing on the Haskell County Website don't paint the clearest picture and leave questions unanswered. Three tax abatements related to Google were executed in June 2025 for the Journey 1A and Journey 2A projects, the Thelma data center project, and another unspecified project referred to as Quest. The attachments in the filings for the Quest tax abatement indicate a tract of land exceeding 2,000 acres. Another tax abatement was executed in April 2026 with Ascendant Site Solutions but little is known about that project.

Google is not Stupid

Homebound Group, LLC (aka Google) is probably laughing their way out of the courthouse. How much money is Haskell County losing by entering into these agreements?

Goodbye Quiet County Roads

The Road Use Agreement executed between Haskell County and Homebound Group, LLC paints a bleak picture with road closures, re-routes, over-sized loads, cable crossings, and drainage ditch construction for waste water runoff. Expect major changes to your quiet country life.
